R.D. BEAN, INC. Roofing & Repair Services

We know just about everything there is to know about roofing, and we're experts at recommending the type of roofing service — including repair, replacement, and maintenance — that will give you the best value for your dollar.

For example, we’re very experienced in the installation of new roofs, but we can also help clients determine whether reroofing could be a viable way to save costs. Knowing what to look for in the existing roof is the key to developing a reroofing plan that addresses any areas that are at risk of failure.

Built-Up Roofing

Built-Up Roofing (BUR) is one of the oldest, most reliable roofing systems for commercial buildings with low-slope roof structures. BUR systems are often referred to as “tar and gravel” roofs.

Typically, BUR systems include several layers (or plies) of bitumen-saturated fiberglass felt, a top coating of asphalt and aggregate (gravel), or a granular-surfaced cap sheet.

BUR systems have earned a great reputation among building owners, property managers, architects, engineers, and specifiers, as well as roofing manufacturers and contractors.

However, the original cost of a BUR system may be slightly higher than other low-slope applications, but considering its durability and longevity, it’s money well spent.

At R.D. BEAN, INC., we’ve been installing BUR systems for over 54 years, using the latest equipment and technology.

Benefits of Built-Up Roofing:

  • Competitive cost over the life of the roof (20-30 years)
  • Multilayer protection for superb tensile strength
  • Thermal performance
  • Withstands high roof traffic
  • Ease of repair and low maintenance
  • Wide choice of surfacing, including cool roofing options
  • Versatile, flexible, and easy to maintain

Single-Ply Roofing

Single-Ply Roofing systems are made up of sheets of various synthetic materials. Because of the elasticity and weather resistance of these materials, only a single layer is needed to complete the roof, providing effective protection for as long as 20 years plus.

There are several different methods for installing single-ply roofing systems. In the ‘mechanically attached’ method, we use screws and battens or reinforcement plates.

The ‘fully adhered’ approach involves thoroughly gluing the sheets to the roof insulation. In other cases, single-ply roofs are ‘ballasted,’ an approach in which they are loose-laid and held in place by a layer of stone.

Also, Single-Ply roofing systems are generally faster and easier to install than other systems. Even so, to ensure effective waterproofing, proper installation is critical.

At R.D. BEAN, INC., we install three types of single-ply roofs:

  1. EPDM (ethylene propylene diene monomer)
  2. TPO (thermoplastic polyolefin)
  3. PVC (polyvinyl chloride)

Benefits of Single-Ply Roofing:

  • Highly versatile, flexible applications
  • Fast and easy installation
  • Ease of maintenance and repair
  • Lightweight
  • Easy to locate punctures
  • Cool roofing options for value, style, and service
  • Hard to beat
