Whatever Your Roofing Needs, We’re Ready at R. D. BEAN, INC.

We know just about everything there is to know about roofing — beginning with the type of roofing system that will best meet your needs.

In addition, we’re experts at recommending the type of roofing service — including repair, replacement, and maintenance — that will give you the best value for your dollar.

For example, we’re very experienced in the installation of new roofs, and we’re happy to provide that service. But we can also help clients determine whether reroofing could be a viable way to save costs.

The key is in knowing what to look for in the existing roof — and developing a reroofing plan that addresses any areas that are at risk of failure.

Best Buy for the Long Haul

Built-Up Roofing (BUR) is one of the oldest, most reliable roofing systems for commercial buildings with low-slope roof structures. Introduced in the 1840s, BUR systems are often referred to as “tar and gravel” roofs.

Typically, BUR systems include several layers (or plies) of bitumen-saturated fiberglass felt, a top coating of asphalt and aggregate (gravel), or a granular-surfaced cap sheet.

BUR systems have stood the test of time — earning a great reputation among building owners, property managers, architects, engineers, and specifiers, as well as roofing manufacturers and contractors.

The original cost of a BUR system may be slightly higher than other low-slope applications, but when you consider its durability and longevity, it’s money well spent.

At R. D. BEAN, INC., Inc. we’ve been installing BUR systems for over 54 years, using the latest equipment and technology.

Benefits of Built-Up Roofing:

  • Competitive cost over the life of the roof (20-30 years)
  • Multilayer protection for superb tensile strength
  • Thermal performance
  • Withstands high roof traffic
  • Ease of repair and low maintenance
  • Wide choice of surfacing, including cool roofing options
  • Versatile, flexible, and easy to maintain

Single-Ply Roofing

Single-Ply Roofing systems are made up of sheets of various synthetic materials. Because of the elasticity and weather resistance of these materials, only a single layer of this material is needed to complete the roof, which provides effective protection for as long as 20 years plus.

There are several different methods for installing single-ply roofing systems. In the ‘mechanically attached’ method, we use screws and battens or reinforcement plates.

The ‘fully adhered’ approach involves thoroughly gluing the sheets to the roof insulation. In other cases, single-ply roofs are ‘ballasted,’ an approach in which they are loose-laid and held in place by a layer of stone.

Single-ply roofing systems are generally faster and easier to install than other systems. Even so, to ensure effective waterproofing, proper installation is critical.

At R. D. BEAN, INC., we install three types of single-ply roofs: EPDM (ethylene propylene diene monomer), TPO (thermoplastic polyolefin), and PVC (polyvinyl chloride).

Benefits of Single-Ply Roofing:

  • Highly versatile, flexible applications
  • Fast and easy installation
  • Ease of maintenance and repair
  • Lightweight
  • Easy to locate punctures
  • Cool roofing options for value, style, and service
  • They’re hard to beat

Manufacturing Our Own Metal Roofing, Metal Flashing, & Trims

Metal roofs have become increasingly popular over the past decade, thanks to their combination of long-term roofing value, aesthetic impact, and excellent performance.

Metal roofs have demonstrated their ability to withstand the elements, providing excellent protection against strong winds, heavy rains, and snow.

They are also fire-resistant and impervious to insects. In addition, metal roofing provides a long service life with minimal maintenance and low lifecycle costs.

At R. D. BEAN, INC., no metal roofing project is too complex— because in our own onsite facility, we can manufacture metal roof components for most applications, including stainless steel, copper, pre-finished aluminum, galvanized and Kynar finishes.

We also fabricate a wide range of seam options, including continuous roll-formed Standing Seams, Batten Seams, and Snap-On Battens, to name a few; and we can also custom fabricate flashing and trims, copings, gravel-stops, drip-edges, and gutters and downspouts to jobsite conditions.

Benefits of Metal Roofing:

  • Very low maintenance
  • Proven performance
  • Broad range of styles and colors
  • Earth-friendly and recyclable
  • Insulation options for even better performance
  • Older systems may be maintained and or refinished Economically
  • Great for aesthetic effect

Finding and Fixing Roof Leaks

As any property owner or manager knows, a leaking roof is a serious problem — and yet often, finding the exact source of the leak can be a challenge.

Trained and Skilled Mechanics

At R. D. BEAN, INC., our dedicated, professional repair and service crews are fully trained in roof leak detection and proper roof repair.

Once we locate the problem or defect that is causing the leak, that’s exactly what we repair (as opposed to replacing a larger area of the roof, as some others do, adding to the customer’s costs).

For added peace of mind and convenience, our workers are certified by many of the major roofing manufacturers, which means that we can perform warranty repairs as well as non-warranted repairs.

As a result, building owners and managers can avoid the headache of having to contact different contractors to perform the needed work.
